Tranmere story
Salford-born goalkeeper Andy Gorton came through Oldham Athletic’s apprentice system and established himself in their first team. He had loan spells with Stockport County and Tranmere Rovers before joining Stockport permanently in 1988.
Gorton later played for Lincoln City, Glossop North End, Crewe Alexandra, Witton Albion, Mossley and Bury, with a loan spell at Altrincham. His move to Glossop in 1989 was reported as a club-record fee.
